it is an advertisement. it is trying to sell you something. it is using your liberal ideologies to sell you more bullshit. it sees you as a marketing demographic. corporations do not fucking care about you brands are not your friend this will not save you.

No, but it does normalize marginalized people in the eyes of people who aren’t part of those marginalized communities. Seeing a gay couple being positively depicted in an ad, or a trans person, or people of color, or disabled people will lead to people outside of those groups getting to see us as something normal, rather than some hypothetical “other” that often gets vilified.

I’m not gonna lie I saw a gay couple on a commercial for a wedding registry app and I almost cried.

Yes, they’re trying to snooker you into buying their product.

But there can still be positive social consequences, even if that wasn’t the intention.

hey, we’re not stupid. you think no one but you knows an ad is an ad, OP? give people some damn credit.

what makes us so happy to see these things isn’t the ad itself. it’s the fact that the world has reached a place where such an ad can be expected to sell product, rather than getting the company banned from advertising venues for being freakish and immoral.

you’re missing an entire level of abstraction. take a step back and widen your viewpoint a bit and you’ll see it.
