me: *is ok for once*
me: jean luc godard wrote pierrot le fou at the very pinnacle of his marital problems, projecting a distorted version of his own marriage to anna karina onto the movie’s “protagonists” (if one could call the problematic coupling of jean paul belmondo as ferdinand, alias pierrot, and anna karina as marianne), portraying anna in an unflattering light by doing so. on set, the two bickered constantly, only getting worse during their next (and last) film, made in u.s.a. pierrot le fou is essentially the tale of karina’s supposed betrayal of godard, albeit one-sided. yet, to the day, anna calls jean luc the true love of her life, while jean luc says she knows more about him than anyone else in the world.
